Ashley launches knock-out bid for Everlast

Sports Direct, the discount sports retailer controlled by controversial sports billionaire Mike Ashley, is to buy Everlast, the iconic boxing brand, for an enterprise value of about £84.1m.

The acquisition will allow Sports Direct, which owns a number of famous UK sporting brands including Slazenger and Dunlop, to raise its profile in the US, and provide a platform for the company to launch its products in the American market.
