Buffet pays less taxes than his cleaner

Buffett, believed to be worth Lm17 billion, stunned his audience when he harshly criticised the tax system, adding that he paid 17.7% on his earnings, while his secretary and cleaner pay around 30%.

Speaking at a $4600 per seat fund-raiser, which included top politicians and businessmen, Buffett said: “The 400 of us [here] pay a lower part of our income in taxes than our receptionists do, or our cleaning ladies, for that matter. If you’re in the luckiest 1 per cent of humanity, you owe it to the rest of humanity to think about the other 99 per cent.”
