Last year Burkle and David Geffen, his billionaire neighbor, both of whom were frequent guests in Clinton’s White House, split their allegiances. Geffen caused a stir by publicly ditching Hillary for Obama, telling New York Times columnist Maureen Dowd that Clinton was the “easiest to beat” of all the Democratic candidates. Geffen, along with Hollywood buddies Steven Spielberg and Jeffrey Katzenberg, then held a private dinner for Obama at Geffen’s Beverly Hills mansion. The trio raised a reported $1.3 million from such star guests as George Clooney, Matt Damon and Oliver Stone.
