Man of steel faces up to possible downturn

For most of the past decade, Lakshmi Mittal has maintained a relentlessly upbeat stance about the outlook for the steel industry.

On Wednesday, steel industry observers will get a chance to see if the mood of the Indian billionaire has changed, in the face of indications that large parts of the global economy may be sliding into prolonged weakness.

Mr Mittal, the chief executive and main owner of ArcelorMittal, will be in the spotlight as he announces the financial results of his company for last year, while also providing a view about the state of demand in steel in the coming months.
