Leonard Lauder’s Beautiful Donation

Giving may be a beautiful thing, but giving $131 million is even more beautiful. In fact, it’s the most beautiful gift the Whitney Museum of American Art, in New York City, has received in its history, and it was donated by billionaire Leonard A. Lauder.

The Whitney announced Wednesday morning that its chairman, Leonard Lauder, son of cosmetics queen Estee Lauder, will donate the “unprecedented” gift through The American Contemporary Art Foundation, where he is president.

“The Foundation is delighted to present this endowment gift to the Whitney,” Lauder said. “We believe it will provide the Museum with the platform it needs to continue its mission as one of the most important cultural institutions in the country today, and add to its forward
