Billionaire has cure for ’suicidal’ need for oil

The “Pickens Plan” is the sort of thing that happens when gasoline tops $4. America teetering on recession needs ideas like this.Boone Pickens, the Texas billionaire, proposes — and not for the first time — fueling millions more vehicles with natural gas, not gasoline.

The latter derives from crude oil. And a shocking 70 percent now is imported. Eventually that will kill the economy, says Pickens, 80.

Natural gas is domestic. America has plenty. It’s under Western Pennsylvania. And under Texas, where Boone Pickens’ BP Capital Inc. undoubtedly owns a piece of it. Under many other deserving states and counties, too. No need to import the stuff. Just switch the wheels of commerce from burning too much gasoline to much more natural gas.
