McCain and Pickens Meet for Breakfast in Aspen

John McCain met for breakfast this morning with T. Boone Pickens, the billionaire oil man who is now campaigning for alternative fuels, particularly wind power.

The pair ate at the Aspen Institute, and McCain was to spend the rest of the day meeting with senior advisers and filming campaign commercials outside Aspen.

“How are you Boone?” McCain greeted Pickens. “Thanks for taking the time to hear me. I appreciate it.”

Before McCain arrived, Pickens told reporters that this was their first meeting in two years.

The pair chatted for a few minutes in front of cameras, talking about Iowa and the number of Hispanic workers in that state. Pickens mentioned recent news that whites will no longer make of the majority in the U.S. by 2042 and said to McCain, “We won’t have to worry about that.”

Then they met privately for more than an hour.

In an interview with The Wall Street Journal and other news organizations in April, Pickens said he supports McCain in the presidential race but didn’t like some of the Arizona Republican’s proposals for dealing with high oil prices
